Dedicated junior lessons for children aged 7 and up. Smaller kites, one-on-one instruction, IKO-certified, at a pace that keeps it fun.
KiteDR offers dedicated kiteboarding lessons for children aged 7 and up on Kite Beach in Cabarete, Dominican Republic. Junior sessions are taught one-on-one by Bryan Betances Martinez, IKO-certified instructor. Appropriately sized kites (2m to 5m) and the IKO junior curriculum are used for every session. All safety equipment is provided.
The IKO junior curriculum covers the same skills as the adult course, but the equipment, pacing, and teaching style are adapted for younger riders.
Kites from 2m to 5m are matched to your child's weight and the day's wind strength. Less pull means more control and a safer, more enjoyable first experience.
Every junior session is one-on-one with Bryan. That means the pace, the coaching, and the language used are all matched to your child rather than a class.
Junior sessions are paced to match children's concentration. Each skill is kept fun and achievable rather than pushed to the point of frustration.
Children who complete the course earn an internationally recognised IKO junior certificate, something they can be genuinely proud of.
All equipment is provided. You just need to bring sunscreen and a swimsuit.
Junior lessons are designed for complete beginners. No previous experience is needed. These are the only requirements before your child gets in the water.
We take care of all the equipment. Here's what your child needs to bring to the beach.
Children aged 7 and up are welcome at KiteDR. The minimum recommended weight is around 40 lbs. Younger children may find it physically difficult to manage even small kites, so age 8 is the practical starting point.
KiteDR uses appropriately sized kites for juniors, typically 2m to 5m depending on the child's weight and the wind strength on the day. Smaller kites generate significantly less pull, making them safe and manageable for children.
Yes, when taught correctly by a qualified instructor using properly sized equipment. All junior lessons use smaller kites matched to the child's weight, are taught one-on-one on Kite Beach, and every child wears a helmet and impact vest. Bryan Betances Martinez holds active IKO certification and has taught junior sessions on Kite Beach since KiteDR was founded.
No. The IKO junior curriculum covers the same skills but is adapted for younger learners. Pacing is shorter to match concentration spans and the approach keeps it fun rather than pressured.
Yes. Children who complete the junior course receive an internationally recognised IKO junior certification.
Yes. Parents are welcome to watch from the beach. The teaching zone is clearly visible from the shore. We ask that parents let the instructor lead and avoid calling out during the session as it can confuse younger students.
